Daniel Cohen, Music Director
The dynamic young Israeli Musician, Daniel Cohen is just emerging on the international conducting scene. Having excelled at the violin he was invited to be member of Daniel Barenboim's 'West-Eastern Divan Orchestra' and performed as a Soloist with the Israel Philharmonic and many other orchestras. His switch to conducting has been met with immediate success.
In 2007, he completed his Postgraduate Conducting Studies as the Royal Academy of Music, London. Among his teachers were George Hurst, Colin Metters and Sir Colin Davies. Also in 2007 Daniel won first prize in the Admont International Conducting Competition in Austria and in 2008 won the first prize in the Aviv competition in Israel (the Yuri Ahronovitch Prize for Young Conductors).

Daniel was chosen by the Lucerne Festival Academy to participate in the conducting master classes of Maestro Pierre Boulez.
Daniel has assisted Yan Pascal Tortelier with the Royal Academy of Music's Symphony Orchestra and took part in the Orkney Conducting Course where he worked with such distinguished ensembles and conductors as the BBC Philharmonic, the Nash Ensemble, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Martyn Brabbins and Sian Edwards.
Tortelier Says of Daniel Cohen, 'I have been truly impressed with his conducting abilities and his handling of a new score'. Sir Peter Maxwell Davies has said, 'He is a splendid, gifted and experienced conductor, with real insights into how to make his inner vision of the score become audible reality'.
Daniel has conducted such Orchestras as the Israel Philharmonic, the Kammerakademie Graz, the Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the King's College London Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. and the Israel Chamber Orchestra. This April Daniel will be conducting the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra at the Grosse Tonhalle in Zürich.
Today Daniel is Chief Conductor of the Jersey Chamber Orchestra, collaborating with such artists as Nicola Benedetti, Michael Collins, and Alison Balsom.
In 2004 Daniel founded and is since the artistic director of the highly acclaimed Gropius Ensemble, an Israeli Group of interdisciplinary artists specializing in creating new artistic genres that draw on different disciplines of Art, such as Music, Theater, and Dance.
